Pilate's freedom

1. FACT: Pilate roamed the countryside looking for her "people".
2. Pilate's understanding of love is her freedom.
3. Magic, for the people who have accepted that it exists, creates an understanding of complicated things. Pilate's posthumous connection with her father molds her understanding of love.
4. "She sighed, 'Watch Reba for me.' And then, 'I wish I'd a knowed more people. I would of loved 'em all. If I'd a knowed more, I would a loved more.'" (Morrison 336).
5. Pilate loved everyone who entered her life, no matter what they had done or who they had done it to. By understanding what love is Pilate has freedom, she is able to live without the conatraints of society and be happy.
6. I find Pilate to be the most intriguing character in the book. Her ability to have the freedom that people long for now, is just incredible. Toni Morrison has given the world a way to find the freedom it so craves in one character.

Love and Hate in LA

Love is inherently built into everyone's genes. It may be destroyed by experiences but it is there when one is born. Society only enhances these feelings. Little girls dream of a knight in shining armor and happily-ever after; while boys take a little longer to get past loving someone for just one night and movng into loving them for a lifetime. They say it's a beautiful thing when a man finds beauty in a woman's heart instead of her body. When a boy finally becomes a man, he moves past lust and into a feeling that buries itself deep within his soul and tugs at the strings of his heart.

This feeling is something that every person believes in and strives for. Love can make it through anything. Love is stronger than any army. Love will keep us together. Love makes the world go round. The sayings go on and on and on. This tiny four-lettered word has caused death, destruction, sadness, but most of all it creates happiness. It causes families to hate each other, people to kill eachother, and people to stare into each other's eyes for hours finding new portals into each others souls.

Love is something that can infiltrate your entire system; one feels it mentally, physically, and emotionally. When love is lost these systems begin to shut down. Mentally you begin to reconsider all of your decisions. Physically you can perform the same but you don't find the joy in just laying your hand around their shoulders. And emotionally you are shattered. The world turns her back on you and you fall into a dark rocky place, that you can't seem to climb out of no matter what new drugs the world tries to find for you. Brokenhearts are not fixed by anti-depressants or street drugs, only time can heal the damage love leaves behind. It comes through like a tornado, spectacular as it approaches leaving devestation in it's wake.

It also likes to rip your heart out at the most unexpected times from the most unexpected people.
